Day 1: Vientiane / Arrival (-/-/-)

Arrival to Vientiane

On arrival in Vientiane Capital, you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Vientiane is a charming and fascinating capital, with an interesting mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and American influences.
Overnight in VIENTIANE

Day 2: Vientiane / City Tour (Breakfast)

AM: After breakfast, we continue to explore Vientiane capital by visiting the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. Enroute to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, you will have the opportunity to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.   
PM: We continue visiting the rest of Vientiane by foot, including Wat Ong Tue, Wat Inpeng and Wat Haisok. We pass by the major shopping area continuing to the Vientiane Central Market of Talad Sao and Talad Kouadin where various goods are displayed for sale; including fresh food, household goods, souvenirs, textiles, gold, silver and antiques. We return to the Mekong Riverside in the late afternoon for observing the sunset.

Day 3: Vientiane – Xiengkhouang    (Breakfast)

After breakfast, free until time to transfer to the airport to Xiengkhouang Vientiane – Xiengkhouang via QV401 @ 13:30 – 14:00 (Operate: Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun) or similar
Upon arrival, we transfer out to visit the Plain of Jars, an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are littered all over the plateau. We also have time, this late afternoon seeing the old capital of Muang Khoun Province and the nearby villages, home to the Hmong hilltribe and Tai Dam people.

Day 4: Xiengkhouang – Luang Prabang (Road) (Breakfast)

Early morning, we visit the Central Market of Phonsavanh to watch the different hill tribe people barter and exchange merchandises. We then head out towards Luang Prabang.  En-route we stop off to see the Buddha images in Thampra, a site more than 200 years old, and various Hmong and hill tribe minority villages along the way. After a photo stop, we continue driving uphill, enjoying the splendid natural scenery of the mountains, the forest and landscape. The journey will take us over mountainous regions until we approach Luang Prabang, one of the most beautiful traditional towns in Asia. Evening is free at leisure

Day 5: Luang Prabang – Mekong River Cruise (Breakfast)

We start the day early by watching saffron-robed monks moving silently through the streets to collect alms (offerings of food), a ritual still very much a part of everyday life in Laos.  
After breakfast, we take a river cruise on the Mekong River to the picturesque village of Ban Chan, a pottery village before we cruise to visit the sacred Pak Ou Buddha Caves. After exploring the caves, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant then return to Luang Prabang and visit the weaving villages of Ban Xiengkhong and Ban Xienglek.

Day 6: Luang Prabang – Khouangsi Waterfalls – City Tour    (Breakfast)

First we visit the morning Phousi Market, where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings.
Today you will visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou a Laoloum village and Ban Thapene, a Khmu village.  This then takes us to the beautiful Khuang Si Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. We then return to Luang Prabang. Your half day city tour this afternoon begins with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. We then head to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture.  We also have time to visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of Wat Aham. From there, we visit the Night Market, where you can browse a lovely selection of handmade textiles, made by the local people and hilltribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.

Day 7: Luang Prabang – Pakse (Flight) – Khong Island (Breakfast)

After breakfast, we board our flight to Pakse
Luang Prabang – Pakse via QV513 @ 10:50 – 12:40 (Operate: Mon, Thu, Sat) or similar
You will be transferred to the airport this morning for your flight to Pakse. On arrival in Pakse, we drive south to Champassak and to visit the fascinating pre-Angkorian ruins of Wat Phu, one of Southeast Asia’s most dramatically situated temples. We have time to explore these intriguing Khmer ruins, which are perched at the base of Mount Phu Kao.  Following lunch, we continue our journey by car to Si Phan Done where you have the rest of the day to relax or to explore the island.
Overnight in KHONG ISLAND

Day 8: Khong Island – Surrounding – Pakse (Breakfast)

After an early morning breakfast, we head south by road and boat to Done Khone. Here we begin by re-tracing the French colonial-past at Ban Khone, where some old colonial houses still stand and glimpse the first Lao railway with its own locomotive. We continue our exploration of the area of the 4000 islands by boat and visit the beautiful Liphi Waterfall, also known as the Samphamith, which forms a natural border between Lao and Cambodia. We return to Ban Nakasang and drive to the famous waterfall of Khone Phapeng – the largest waterfall in South East Asia, also known as the ‘Niagara of the east’. Late afternoon drive to Pakse town for overnight

Day 9: Pakse – Boloven Plateau – Pakse (Road) (Breakfast)

After breakfast, make an excursion to Bolivian Plateau. The plateau is famous for its pleasant climate, its waterfalls, its fertile soil and excellent coffee. Considered a strategic area during the Vietnam War between the Americans and Vietnamese, it has suffered heavy shelling. The Bolivian constitutes the largest ethnic group of the plateau, where also live Alak, Katu, the Ta Oy and Suay. Visit a coffee plantation and tea. Continue to Tat Lo Waterfall. On the way, we stop in the villages of minorities. In the afternoon, continue to Tat Fan Waterfall. Back to Pakse in late afternoon and transfer to hotel.

Day 10:    Pakse – Siem Reap (Flight) (Breakfast)

After breakfast, transfer to the Pakse Airport for your departure flight to Siem Reap.
Pakse – Siem Reap via QV512 @ 08:25 – 09:25 or similar
